Welcoming new pet owners to our practice

Firstly, a warm welcome to you and your pets! We have had a lot of new pet owners register with us over the past few months and our practice has undergone some relatively big changes with the opening of our new premises in Sherborne. To welcome you to our practice, we wanted to provide an overview of the information you may find helpful. This covers general pet ownership and the tools and facilities we offer.

Welcome Emails for New Pet Owners

If you have recently registered your pet with us, within your first week you will receive a ‘welcome email’ from us. This will detail everything you need to know about our practice and the easy-access links to get started with your pet’s care. More information is below!

PetsApp

PetsApp – it’s in the name – an app for your pets! It is free to download and easy to use, so contacting our practice can be convenient and stress-free!

You can use PetsApp to:

  • Arrange face-to-face consultations with us, without leaving the comfort of your home.

Pet Health Plan

Membership to our Pet Health Plan provides the most comprehensive and cost-effective way to give your pet everything they need to stay healthy in one monthly direct debit payment. Plans are available for cats and dogs, which include:

You can sign up conveniently via our website and gain peace of mind that all your pet’s preventative care is covered!

Pet Insurance

Often when we welcome new pet owners into practice, we are asked whether we recommend insuring your pets. In addition, there is often confusion around the difference between insurance and a health plan

In short, a health plan varies from practice to practice in terms of what is covered exactly. Generally it is for a pet’s regular preventative care needs. Pet insurance, on the other hand, provides cover for unforeseen costs in the form of veterinary fees if your pet is injured or becomes unwell. It is something we strongly recommend to ensure that during the most difficult times, cost isn’t a concern. We offer 4 weeks of free cover to cats and dogs under six months old which we have examined, with up to £4,000 of cover with PetPlan to get you started. Whilst we cannot recommend providers, our team are happy to talk you through what you may like to consider when looking for a policy. We also have more information on the ‘FAQ’ section of our website.

The Newton Clarke Way

Finally, at Newton Clarke, we do things a little differently! It may be the reason you decided to register your pet with us! We are not just another vets. We not only provide the highest standard of care but we are independently owned (and proud of it!). This means the decisions we make are to improve pet care, owner experience and team wellbeing; they are not based on directions from shareholders to achieve financial targets. We reinvest in your pet’s care, in our facilities, in our equipment and extensively in team training. This is evidenced by our new premises, equipment (including a brand new state-of-the-art CT scanner), and the expanding capabilities and qualifications of our team. We also have a growing list of visiting specialists, allowing your pets to receive referral-level care in familiar surroundings

Our investments don’t stop there though. We also invest in the environment and put sustainability at the heart of what we do, achieving our Bronze award in 2023 from Investors in the Environment and Silver award in 2024! Finally, we also believe in investing in the future through educating the next generations of pet owners – our children – on the animals we share our planet with, both at home and in the wild- visit the children’s learning section of our website

We very much look forward to getting to know you and your pets on your next visit to our practice.
