Personalised pet care

Our goal has always been to provide compassionate, transparent care for your pet throughout their life. Every pet and situation is different. This is why we always tailor our approach to each animal, providing personalised pet care.

Our Health Plan

We build relationships with owners and their animals based on trust and mutual respect. We welcome questions so we can best support you and them. Alongside this comes our focus on preventative healthcare and operating sustainably as a practice. We believe that identifying behaviour and medical problems early on can provide better outcomes for your pet. This relies on regular examinations where we discuss your pet’s individual needs. This is why, as part of our health plan, we provide unlimited consultations with a vet or veterinary nurse. This also supports our wider business goal of operating as sustainably as we can. We assess each pet for their individual parasite risk and provide tailored treatment for their unique circumstance, rather than taking a blanket approach. This way, pets are not treated unnecessarily and we reduce the impact on the environment.

Personalised pet care including parasiticides

In early 2023, it was found that ‘chemicals in many small animal parasiticide products, such as those commonly used to treat fleas and mites, are present in waterways in urban areas, often in concentrations high enough to cause harm to the environment and ecosystem’. As a result, the British Veterinary Association (BVA) called for more research into the impact of parasiticides on the environment. It is encouraging its veterinary members to use these medicines responsibly, avoiding blanket treatment.

Parasiticide treatments play a very important role in preventing and treating illnesses and conditions linked to parasites. Many of these also affect humans, so they are essential in maintaining health. Of course, we, as a profession, need to be mindful of the impact these products have on our environment. Spot-on treatments, for example, while incredibly effective, enter waterways through a variety of routes: hair and skin shedding, being rinsed away, or direct contact, such as a dog swimming in a water source.

In summary

By using these products carefully and considerately, we can ensure that the risk to pets is balanced with the risk to the environment. While additional research is ongoing to guide treatment decisions, some risk factors, such as seasonal trends and high-risk groups, are already well established. As a result, we undertake full risk assessments for pets when prescribing parasiticide products to ensure that we offer nothing but personalised pet care.
